What an APK changes about installation
An APK can be installed outside an app store, which means the user may be taking on more responsibility for verifying the file source. A familiar filename does not prove authenticity.
Before opening an APK, confirm where it came from, why you need it and whether the source is the same place you intentionally chose.
- Do not install files received unexpectedly.
- Scan or verify files using tools you trust.
- Keep Android security protections enabled unless you understand a specific temporary change.
Unknown-source settings
Android may require permission for a browser or file manager to install unknown apps. Granting that permission broadly or leaving it enabled unnecessarily increases exposure to accidental installations.
If you temporarily enable a setting for a file you trust, review the setting afterwards.
Permissions after installation
Once an app is installed, review permissions based on what the app actually needs. Requests for SMS reading, accessibility control, contacts, microphone, camera or broad storage access deserve particular attention.
If a permission does not make sense for the feature you are using, deny it and investigate before continuing.

Important notice
The presence of the term APK on a page or filename is not evidence that a file is genuine. Verify the source before installation.
